Character Study: Vincent & Roy – Two sides of the same coin

Time for something new at Buttered Popcorn! A magical thing occurred to us, while watching “Collateral” for the fourth time straight for our Collateral review. We were watching Vincent work, and thinking about the many other notably violent characters Tom has played, and how each of them differ from Vincent. Ethan Hunt fights and kills for his country.  Jack Reacher fights and kills for what’s right.  Lestat is… a whole different story. But then, we thought about Knight and Day, and it came to us! Vincent and Roy Miller are very similar! In fact, we maintain that either of them could have turned out like the other, if a very few circumstances in their lives had been different.

Join us for our humble true and correct opinions on the similarities (and major differences) between these two powerful characters!

It’s time for another PicSpam!

We are SO excited to share many pictures of one of our absolute favorite Tom Cruise movies. Knight and Day really has everything – fun, romance, action and adventure, and it even touches on some deep themes of honor, honesty, personal responsibility, and where to draw the line between duty and “self-care”. This time, we will be splitting our PicSpam post up, and posting several batches of pictures, rather than having one huge, image-heavy post. We hope you enjoy all of these!!

Knight and Day

It’s time to take a look at one of our very favorite Tom Cruise movies! With such well known classics as Top Gun, Jerry Maguire and The Mission Impossible movies under his belt, it’s easy for people to forget that Tom Cruise is great at playing humorous roles. Join us as we present our true and correct opinions on one of Tom’s best comedic movies: Knight and Day.

Smartass Summary: Tom Cruise kidnaps Cameron Diaz.

Slightly less smartass summary: The spy one that isn’t Mission: Impossible.

Ok ok, REAL summary: A girl lies to get on an airplane, and is swept into the adventure of a lifetime.

Overall opinion:
Buttered Popcorn loves this movie! It’s one of our very favorites. We could watch it again and again! Tom shines a quirky but dedicated super-spy, and Cameron’s great as the feisty, relatable young woman who unwittingly becomes the crucial player in a deadly game of keep-away. The movie is FUNNY. It’s so much fun to watch, and it’s clever and exciting at the same time.

Vanilla Sky

Ready to get metaphysical? Time for a wild ride, as Buttered Popcorn dives into the mysterious, exciting, poignant and disturbing world of Tom Cruise’s 2001 winter offering, Vanilla Sky

Smartass Summary: The one with the bomb soundtrack.

Slightly less smartass summary: Tom Cruise gets plastic surgery.

Ok ok, REAL summary: Guy with daddy issues learns who his true friends are.

Overall opinion:
Buttered Popcorn loves this movie! It’s full of drama, romance, and emotional intensity, and the plot has twists and turns that will make your jaw drop. You’re invited to follow David Aames (Jr.) through his “brilliant journey of self awakening”, during which he learns much – about himself, about his friends, about the nature of life and death. And it’s all framed by visually stunning scenes and absolutely amazing music! In other words – watch it!

Go ahead… We’ll wait. Here’s a handy link for you.

Seriously, because we’re gonna spoil it soon, so if you haven’t watched it yet, go on over, grab the movie and watch away.

Done? Great! Now, let’s get started!
